Fast-growing companies in the vision of the Dutch National Statistics Office

Most of the companies registering good results over the period of time measured by the CBS are small and medium-sized enterprises. By fast-growing, the CBS means a Dutch company which employs a minimum number of 10 individuals and which increases its workforce by 10% over a period of 3 consecutive years. A Dutch company can be considered a “fast-grower” by hiring new employees or by taking over another business.

This was the highest number of companies registering such good results since 2010 when the CBS started monitoring fast-growing businesses.

Hospitality and construction firms are the fastest-growing Dutch businesses

The total number of companies representing the business sector in the Netherlands and registering high employment numbers is 7,300 and come from the hospitality and construction industries.

The fastest-growing companies came from the catering industry, where 945 Dutch companies met the requirements imposed by the CBS. This number indicates a 25% growth compared to the previous year. Accommodation establishments also registered a slight growth in the past year. However, the second position was occupied by the construction sector with 385 companies registering good results in 2016, 50% more than in 2015.

The other fast-growing companies came from the information and communications sector and registered a 17% increase compared to 2015. IT service providers, software developers, but also merchant and business service providers completed the picture. The surprise came from temporary recruitment companies which were included on the fast-growers list for the first time.
