Not only large cities are thriving in the Netherlands, as equal development opportunities can be found in smaller Dutch cities. One of the best examples of success is Eindhoven which registered a faster-growing economy than the economies of four large cities. Foreign investors who want to set up companies in any city of the country can receive assistance from our Dutch company formation consultants.
Recent statistics reveal that not only the largest cities in the Netherlands meet the requirements to have flourishing economies, but small cities like Eindhoven have the recipe for it. Last year was one of the bets year so far for Eindhoven’s economy which registered a 3.6% increase, the highest growth compared to the national average 2.2% increase. Moreover, cities like Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam and The Hague fell within the national average of 2.2% and 3%, below Eindhoven.
This is not a surprise, as one of the largest financial institutions in the country had announced since last year that Eindhoven would be directly “battling” with Amsterdam in terms of municipal economic growth. While Eindhoven was predicted a 3.2% to 3.4% growth, Amsterdam’s GDP was projected to grow below the 3.2% threshold.
According to the National Statistics Office, the high-tech industry delivered the best results for the city’s economy. Three large international companies have set up their headquarters in Eindhoven and have brought a gross added value of 13 billion euros to the city. The amount does not include the goods and services brought from outside the city. Eindhoven’s GDP was 3.5% higher in 2016 compared to 2015.
The energy sector also played an important role in Eindhoven’s economic growth in the past year, as its added value grew by 8.2%. Commercial services also contributed to the economy, registering a 2.4% increase. The manufacturing industry also rose above the national average, registering 24.5% increase.
